ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) is all set to launch the first edition of its professional volleyball league by the end of this year, according to Chaudhry Mohammad Yaqoob, chairman of the federation.
“We have almost finalised plan for our professional league and its launching is expected in December (this year),” he said. He sounded optimistic about participation of foreign players in the league, saying there would be six to eight teams in the league. “Each team will have at least two foreign players,” he said.
Yaqoob said that the league would have players from Kazakhstan, Iran, China, Sri Lanka and other Asian nations as the federation was in touch with the players of these countries and have expressed willingness to play in the league. He did not divulge the details regarding financial aspects of the league but said that the players would get reasonable monetary benefits.
He said that the league would develop Pakistan’s volleyball as it could be a great platform for young players. “It will be for the first time that a large number of our youngsters will be playing in an active league with some of the best players in the world. This will hone their talent and help us develop a strong national outfit,” he said.
