ISLAMABAD: It is impossible to replace Abdul Sattar Edhi with anybody, however, we are trying our best to continue his mission to serve the nation as much as possible said the in charge of the twin-cities Edhi centres, Muhammad Akram.

He also expressed his deep grief over the demise of Abdul Sattar Edhi, the founder of the Edhi Foundation.

“After the death of Edhi, we are still getting the same donations from the public which is a result of the good repute of Edhi. There are four to five million expenses including all the expenses of ambulances and care homes and we are affording it with the cooperation of our public”.

“Edhi’s mission is going on smoothly, following his wishes. The ambulances and charity work are being done on a regular basis to serve the nation’s poor and needy people.

There are five sub centres of Edhi working in the federal capital of Pakistan located at I-8 Markaz, G-10 Markaz, I-9/4, opposite the PIMS and the PWD,” he added.

The supervisor of the Edhi centres in the twin cities, Waheed Ahmed told Daily Times: “Almost every year we had gotten a chance to meet our visionary and ideal person “Edhi”. It is unfortunate that the great man is no more but he and his deeds will remain in our memories”.

There are 48 ambulances running in Islamabad and Rawalpindi which are providing emergency services to the people. Whereas, there are 180 employees who have been busy day and night.

Answering to a question, the in charge said that there were four critical accidents which were overseen by the Edhi ambulances’ professional and trained teams. There should be a separate way or lane for the use of emergency purposes like ambulances, he stressed.

“We are thankful to the people of Pakistan for their respect but it is also pertinent to ask or request the people to make the way free for the ambulances which may help save the lives of anyone.

He said that there were approximately 200 old aged persons, orphan children, widows and deserving persons. The Edhi Foundation was talking proper care of them including their food, health and residence. When questioned about the space or capacity of a Care Home at Sector I-8. he was of the view that there was almost a capacity of more than 2000 people.

He revealed that the adoption of a child facility was directly entertained by Bilquis Edhi the widow of Abdul Sattar Edhi.

He stated that if anyone was willing to adopt a child than he should fill a form at any Edhi centre and after filling it send it to the Edhi head quarters in Karachi. Bilquis Edhi would personally investigate about the willing parents by meeting them and then make a decision, because it was very sensitive, he remarked.
