KARACHI: The Karachi Tax Bar Association (KBA) has requested the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman to extend the deadline for filing of monthly withholding statement of income tax and sales tax for June.
In a letter sent to the FBR head, the KBA stated that requested for extension, as business of the entire country was closed due to the Eid holidays.
It said the holidays announced by the federal government were from July 5-8 whereas the last date for filing the monthly withholding statements under the Sales Tax Act for the tax period of June was due on July 15 and July 18, which leaves only a few working days to put all the data entries in the monthly withholding statement and monthly sales tax return. The association urged the FBR to look into the matter to facilitate genuine taxpayers, who are working on behalf of the FBR as withholding agents and contributing a huge amount to the exchequer without any compensation.
“We therefore, on behalf of the genuine taxpayers of the country and members of the bar, earnestly request FBR to extend the date of filing of monthly income tax withholding statement and the sales tax return for the tax period of June till July 31 in order to enable them to complete the work and to facilitate them and for a proper compliance of the same,” the letter concluded.
