LAHORE: Jeremy McLellan, American comedian and biryani enthusiast is finally coming to Pakistan in August.

The 30 year old Southern California based comedian, who is well known for his thought provoking and comic take on issues rather close to home, ranging from problems faced by immigrants and issues regarding race, religion, Islamophobia and politics is set to travel to Pakistan in the first half of August, accompanying a team of dental professionals on a humanitarian mission for IMANA. The Islamic Medical Association of North America is the largest network of American Muslim healthcare professionals that aims to provide healthcare based on Islamic principles and raise awareness among underprivileged communities.  It is no surprise that McLellan is affiliated with the organization, as he has become a champion for Muslim communities and especially Pakistani Muslims. This can see seen in the countless comments and tweets by Pakistanis flooding his Facebook and Twitter pages, especially when he announced the news yesterday through his Facebook page.

McLellan, on his Facebook page added that while he was there to assist the IMANA, he would willingly do a couple of shows in Lahore and Islamabad. The comedian started a GoFundMe project where he asked for donations which would allow him to visit and jokingly help “deport” him to Pakistan. Although he faces a lot of criticism for his continuous support of Muslims and other ethnic minorities, he is quoted to have said in an interview with VICE:  “As a comedian, you just tell jokes that you think are funny and talk about issues you think are important.” He added that it was never his intention to gain such a massive Muslim fan following and that it was simply a by-product of his work as an artist.
