PM asked to revive Cabinet Committee on National Security

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif after resuming his charge as the chief executive in Islamabad on Monday should revive the Cabinet Committee on National Security.

In his talk show, Bol Bol Pakistan, political analyst and veteran journalist Nusrat Javeed questioned the federal government’s preparations for the Friday’s meeting of the federal cabinet.

“How can you formulate a reaction or a policy if you aren’t able to understand a phenomenon? We haven’t even been able to identify the lead characters in the on-going Kashmir issue.”

Nusrat said the Corps Commander in their meeting on Wednesday had clearly given priority to two issues: Kashmir and Afghanistan. “In its tweet, ISPR clearly mentioned Afghanistan and Kashmir as the two major issues,” he added.

The federal government, he said, had also announced it would formulate policy on the two mentioned issues in Friday’s meeting of the cabinet. “These issues must be discussed in Friday’s meeting. There is no need for a one-on-one meeting.”

Commenting on a series of meetings between the Pakistani and US officials, the political analyst said Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz took the initiative to clear doubts, if any, about Pakistan’s position.

PM and Panama

Nusrat said only parliament could find a solution to the Panama Papers. He added that lawmakers must find a solution to the huge leak of documents that revealed details of offshore assets of the Sharif family.

“Our opposition is lenient towards the government. Nawaz Sharif wouldn’t have been the prime minister if our opposition was prudent,” he said.

The veteran journalist also criticised the opposition’s attitude towards the government, questioning the opposing parties’ leniency as the government presented budget in the absence of the prime minister.

Two years in Karachi

Commenting on the wave of terror Karachi witnessed following the murder and abduction of Amjad Sabri and Barrister Awais Ali Shah, respectively, Nusrat said Karachi has experienced change in the past two years.

“All judges of the Sindh High Court say their families don’t feel safe. We journalists report about Imran’s new wife, Qandeel Baloch’s husband and child but don’t bother to look into the murder and kidnapping. We all have different priorities.”

The political analyst said the paramilitary force was given extraordinary powers in extraordinary times. He also questioned law and order situation in the metropolis, saying: “Karachi was recovering and the last two years were a testimony to it.”
