LAHORE: The City Traffic Police has once again launched a massive drive against the increasing trend of one-wheeling by youngsters by starting a one-month awareness campaign to educate people regarding the dangerous one-wheeling game on the city roads. City Traffic Police SP Asif Siddiq said in Friday that traffic police high-ups have been directed to depute special squads of wardens at the busy roads across the city, including Jail Road, The Mall, Main Boulevard Gulberg, Canal Road, Ferozepur Road and Ring Road to control one-wheeling, especially on Saturday and Sunday. These roads are well carpeted and wide as can easily be used for the purpose of one-wheeling, he added. The SP directed the traffic officers and circle heads to initiate stern action against one-wheelers without discrimination and said that no one should be spared if found quilty of one-wheeling, which is causing a number of death and severe injuries to drivers. Siddiq said that CTP has started this initiative with the help of Atlas Honda Safety Manager Tasleem Shuja. “We would arrange awareness programmes against one-wheeling by distributing pamphlets on major city roads, markets, bazaars, shopping malls and other important public places,” he added. On the other hand, citizens Kamran, Afraz, and Numan told Daily Times that majority of traffic wardens misbehaved with public, charged unnecessary fines and detained motorbikes in different police stations in the name of crackdown. They said that the traffic wardens and city police should be stopped from detaining the motorcycles of innocent citizens and take actions against the real culprits. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Tayyab Hafeez Cheema told this scribe that the traffic wardens are responsible to ensure smooth traffic flow and do not allow parking at wrong places, which also cause traffic jams. For controlling the menace of one-wheeling, City Traffic Police would arrange special duty in different places of the city, he added.
