LAHORE: As many as 40,000 students would appear in the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) entry test to be held tomorrow (Sunday).

According to the UET spokesman, the university has established 13 test centres across Punjab where the combine entry test would be conducted. The test would be conducted simultaneously at UET Lahore, UET Kala Shah Kaku, UET Taxila, College of Engineering and Technology, Bahaudin Zakria University (BZU) Multan, College of Engineering in Islamia University, Bahawalpur, NFC Institute of Engineering and Fertilizer Research, Faisalabad, NFC Institute of Engineering and Technology, Multan, Government College of Technology, Rahim Yar Khan, University of Gujrat, Dr AQ Khan Institute of Technology, Mianwali, and International Islamic University, Islamabad.

The spokesman told Daily Times that this test would be a general test for all engineering colleges. On a question about total available seats against which 40,000 students would appear, he said that there are only 2,500 admission seats available in all UET campuses including UET Lahore, UET Kala Shah Kaku and UET Taxila. However, he added, all other engineering colleges would admit students according to their capacity and announced seats.

On another query regarding arrangements at test centres, the spokesman was of the view that UET has arranged proper sitting plan for the parents and guardians of students who would come along the candidates. For this purpose, facilities of seats, shelters, drinking water and fans have been provided at centres, he added.

He said that a map of centres have also been uploaded on UET website to guide the parents and guardians. Apart from this, a two-day ‘Open House’ would be organised on August 5 and 6 to provide information about university, its departments, different projects and admission procedures to prospective students, he added.

It is pertinent to mention that in 2011, mismanagement by UET administration was observed as no proper arrangements were made for the parents and guardians of the students, while the entry test was made controversial after the students blamed administration of leaking the entry test against handsome amount.
