UK to train Rescue 1122 officials on OMT management

LAHORE: A six-member delegation from the operational team of Rescue 1122 has been sent to the United Kingdom for ‘emergency and disaster management training’ to deal with day-to-day emergencies related to Orange Line Metro Train in an effective manner.

The training has been organised by Scottish Parliament Member Hanzala Malik as continuation of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Lahore and Glasgow.

According to the spokesperson of Rescue 1122 on Saturday, the delegation, comprising Emergency Officer Shahid Waheed Qammer, Rescue and Safety Officer Muhammad Azam, Emergency Medical Technician Naeemur Rehman, Fire Rescuer Amjad Khan and DERT Rescuer Muhammad Jhangir would be headed by District Emergency Officer Lahore Dr Ahmad Raza to proceed Scottish Fire Service, Glasgow, Scotland, for 10 days academic and practical simulation-based training of metro train accidents and disasters.

Rescue 1122 Director General Brig (r) Dr Arshad Zia said that the rescue delegation of Pakistan would be trained on the underground structure and tunnels, incident command considerations, hazard risk vulnerability assessment, specialised equipment, major incident planning, underground stations visits, road traffic crashes management, contingency planning, strategic planning, control rooms and paramedical cycle programme, followed by field visits to Scottish Public Transport System and Scottish Ambulance Service.

The DG said, “We are really thankful to the Punjab chief minister for providing all out support to enhance operational capacity of Rescue 1122 with close coordination and support of Hanzala Malik.”
