Imran should take notice of Khyber Leaks, not Panama Leaks: Muqam

PESHAWAR: Ameer Muqam, Advisor to the Prime Minister, has recently asked Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan when he would start talking about the Khyber Leaks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) instead of Panama Leaks.

In his address at an Eid Millan Party at a local hotel in Gulbahar, Peshawar, Muqam noted that the Director-General of Ihtesab Commission had recently resigned from his position due to the rampant corruption in KP. He also added that the PTI chairman had oft-claimed that his government in the province would construct 360 small dams, however, no such promises had yet been realised.

It was noted that Shakil Durrani, Ex-Chairman, Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO) was allegedly removed from his service once he had identified corruption in the provincial department. “PTI wants accountability only on Panama Leaks while PM-N wants to make all and sundry accountable for corruption done in Pakistan,” Muqam stated.

He also criticised the billion-tree-tsunami project of PTI government, further adding that the director of the project had been allegedly demoted to the position of assistant director once he had pointed out corruption in the project. Muqam also lamented that even though PTI government had announced to introduce change in the province after coming into power, “they have miserably failed as people are not getting health facilities at hospitals and quality education at schools.”

The situation of local government was also not very different from other departments in the province, he said. “Before elections, the PTI chief claimed to devolve power on the grassroots level but in reality, after coming into power they clipped the wings of the local government representatives and cut development funds,” Muqam lambasted.

He also criticised Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman, Pakistan People’s Party on suggesting inquiries against corruption, further adding that PPP should strive for an enquiry of corruption from former the president and party’s co-chairman, Asif Ali Zardari. Muqam also said that the results of PK-8 by-election clearly stated that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) would take over power in the province.
