Religious Ministry hires servies of two cops

ISLAMABAD: It has been revealed that the Ministry of Religious Affairs has hired the services of two high police officials for the Hajj operation even though they allegedly had some links with the Taliban in the past.

The two SPs, hailing from Sindh, Ali Sher Jhakrani and Kamran Adil, have been appointed to monitor the performance of Khudam-Al- Hujjaj by the Ministry of Religious Affairs without getting a security clearance of both the police officers. Ali Sher Jhakrani had also performed the duty during the previous year too.

At this important juncture of time when Saudi Arabia has also come under the nexus of terrorism and last year during the ritual of Hajj at least 1000 Hajjis were killed in a stampede, the appointment of two such officers who have links with the Taliban has raised many questions.

SP Ali Sher Jhakrani has already arrived at the Hajj Complex Islamabad without getting a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the police department. His son, Owais Jhakrani, has been charged in the bid to the Naval Headquarters along with the Taliban. Owais was a second lieutenant in Pakistan Navy but was removed from service due to his fanatic religious approach and hardliner thinking about Jihad.

In an operation conducted by the Taliban , he helped them by taking the control of the PN ship in the open sea. In an effort of hijacking that warrior ship , he was killed along with other Taliban companions.

At that time Ali Sher Jhakrani was performing his duties as senior police officer at Karachi . After the the incident he was posted out of Sindh . Now he is doing his job with the Gilgit Baltistan Police. Another police officer who was selected for the Hajj operation 2016 is SP Kamran Adil. who also remained on the post of SP Islamabad. His brother Hammad Adil was arrested from Bara Kahu on the charges of having close terms with the Taliban. A case of terrorism is also registered against him at the police station.
The house of Kamran Adil’s father is situated at Bara Kahu from where the law enforcement agencies recovered a explosive laden truck and at that time Hammad Adil was present there. On the occasion SP Kamran Adil expressed that he did not have any links with his brother.
In this connection when Spokesman of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Additional Secretary Noor Zaman was contacted he told Daily Times that they did not know about the past track record of the two officers . He said that now he would keep the facts in front of the minister of religious affairs.

“The ministry selects people for the Hajj operation on the basis of nominations from different departments who send the names of their officers to us. In the past the officer from Pak Army did head the delegation of Khudam-al- Hujjaj, but now the job is assigned to the police officers”, he added.

He said that the matter of these two officials was really sensitive as if any untoward incident occurred, then no one would be ask from the concerned department , but all the enquires would be held by the ministry.
