41,000 take test for admission to engineering colleges

LAHORE: The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) on Sunday held combined entrance test for admissions to engineering institutes of the Punjab province.

As many as 41,000 students appeared in the entrance test held simultaneously at 13 centres across the province.

According to university statement, 12,723 candidates appeared in the entrance test held at UET Lahore campus, 5,019 in Islamabad, 6,000 in Multan, 4,228 in Faisalabad, 2,834, in Kala Shah Kaku, 1,763 in Bahawalpur, 1,055 in Rahim Yar Khan, 1,642 in Sahiwal, 660 in Mianwali, 2,266 in Gujrat and 2,735 in Taxilla.

University of Engineering and Technology Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid also visited different test centres. Talking to newsmen, the vice chancellor said that all possible steps were taken to ensure transparency and merit. He expressed satisfaction over the arrangement made for conducting the entrance test.

He said future of Pakistan was connected with engineering sector and more there was more room to explore all dimensions of engineering at every level. Dr Khalid said that the UET Lahore was making efforts to upgrade curricula and also making strong relations with industry to lessen industry-academia gap.

He went on to say that the UET was a best platform, which was teaching modern engineering techniques to students. He said that sitting arrangements for students’ relatives were also made outside the centres.

Talking about security measures, the VC said that walkthrough gates, CCTV cameras and mobile jammers were also installed. The test was conducted in a peaceful atmosphere and no unpleasant incident occurred, he said.Results will be announced on July 24, he added.
