KMC welcomes South Asian Table Tennis Championship participants

KARACHI: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Administrator Laeeq Ahmed has said that it was an honour for the city like Karachi to host an international sports event. “We welcome participants of South Asian Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Championship 2016 on behalf of citizens of Karachi,”he said.

The KMC would continue to support and cooperate in the holding of such events for promoting sports in the metropolis, Laeeq said.

He expressed these views while speaking in a civic reception held by KMC in honour of the participating teams and their officials of South Asian Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Championship.

The tournament was organised by Pakistan Table Tennis Federation from July 15-17 for boys and girls teams from Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal and Pakistan.

While addressing the reception, the KMC administrator expressed hope that this championship would promote the game of table tennis in SAARC nations and provide good opportunity to local players to showcase their talent in a well quality environment while playing along good players.

He said Pakistan enjoyed good relations with SAARC nations especially with Sri Lanka, Nepal and Maldives and all these countries give importance to bilateral visits of sports teams adding that the citizens of Karachi love sports and by hosting successful sports events in this city, they have proved this
as well.

The city administrator said that KMC always play its role in the promotion of sports events including indoor sports in the city and cooperate in holding of such events.

In the end, he gave away traditional Sindhi ‘Ajrak and Cap’ to the officials of team and managers of South Asian Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Championship.
