Legal fraternity urges govt to press Kashmir issue at int’l forums

LAHORE: The legal fraternity has condemned the atrocities of Indian armed forces on occupied Kashmir and urged the government to play its due role in pressing the issue at international forums.

Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Barrister Syed Ali Zafar on Tuesday announced to hold all parties conference to highlight the issue of Kashmir at international level and to find a viable solution of the problem. He said that the ambassadors of different countries, representatives of the Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) and Amnesty International would also be invited to discuss the issue.

SCBA on Tuesday held an executive committee meeting while Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) separate held a meeting to denounce the current wave of killings in Kashmir after the martyrdom of freedom fighter Burhan Wani at the hands of Indian security forces. The meetings highlighted the sacrifices and problems of the Kashmiri people and slammed the brutalities of Indian armed forces against the innocent youth.

Barrister Ali Zafar on the occasion appreciated the decision of the Lahore High Court’s meeting, which decided that the judges should be appointed at the principal seat of the LHC for every district, so that the people of the concerned districts could get timely justice. He said Kashmiris had been fighting for Pakistan and therefore, they would not be left abandoned.

LHCBA President Rana Ziaur Rehman, during the meeting, said only lip service would be of no use and urged the human rights’ organisations to come forward and support the Kashmiris against genocide by the Indian forces.

He said that the innocent youth of held Kashmir were being slaughtered just for raising voice for freedom of their homeland. He said that the United Nations Organisation (UNO) had adopted resolution of right to self-determination to Kashmiris, adding that all UN resolutions on Kashmir issue should be adopted in letter and spirit. He condemned the latest wave of atrocities committed by the Indian security forces in the held valley in particular and human rights; violations against other minorities like Sikhs, low-caste Hindus, Christians and Muslims in general.
