Sir: In our dearest homeland, access to safe and clean water is like a dream as we have increased the level of pollution by several anthropogenic activities and in these activities, industrialisation is playing a vital role. Kasur is famous for its more than 240 leather tanneries, however these tanneries are one of the major sources of Kasur’s increasing economy but due to the lack of check and balance on the waste management of effluents, these tanneries are releasing their chromium and other metals rich effluent in the river and other water bodies.

These chromium rich effluents are responsible for severe diseases including carcinogenic ones. Thus, I would like to draw government’s attention towards this issue that it should ask the relevant authorities to ask these leather tanneries of Kasur to treat their effluents properly and try to recycle that waste in order to minimise the damage.
