KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minster (CM) Syed Qaim Ali Shah left for Dubai on Wednesday to consult with the leadership of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) the extension to Rangers’ special powers in Sindh. According to reports, Rangers’ special powers in Karachi expired on July 19, while a summary sent to the Sindh chief minister is still waiting for final approval in this regard. Earlier, Qaim Ali Shah said that he would sign the summary of special powers for Rangers after consultation with the PPP leadership. Before leaving for Dubai, the chief minister expressed dissatisfaction over repairing and maintenance work of Shaink Bund of Ghotki near Qadirpur loop. The Sindh chief minister, while visiting Ghotki, expressed dissatisfaction and anger over the pace of work at the site. While talking to journalists, he said that Shaink Bund has become sensitive. He said the federal government had not issued funds for repairing of bunds, while the Sindh government was spending from his own sources for maintenance of embankments. He said that strict directives had been issued to officials for monitoring of all embankments at Ghotki. Irrigation Secretary Syed Zaheer Hussain Shah told the Sindh CM that this year the river had changed its direction to Shaink Bund, adding that the Irrigation Department was ready with machinery and huge stock of stones to deal with any unexpected disaster.
