ISLAMABAD: Move On Pakistan party Chairman Mian Muhammad Kamran was arrested early Wednesday morning from Islamabad over charges of spreading anarchy and defaming the institution of army.
Kamran, who triggered a storm in the country through his banner campaign inviting army to take over, was arrested at around 4am from a guesthouse located in Sector F-6/1 of the capital city by a police party and was immediately shifted to Faisalabad.
A police party headed by Kotwali Police Station SHO Malik Shahid Iqbal was in the capital city for last couple of days to apprehend the accused, against whom a case had already been registered in the same police station. On a tip-off that the accused had recently returned from Peshawar after a two-day long stay, the police party raided a guesthouse in Sector F-6/1 of the capital city and apprehended the accused. He was presented in a court of law later in the day, which handed over him to police on a two-day physical remand.
It is pertinent to mention here that a marginal and less-known party ‘Move on Pakistan’ had displayed banners carrying picture of Army Chief Gen Raheel Sharif in 13 major cities a few days back, inviting army to impose martial law in the country.
Kamran had told media at that time that “he thinks army can run the government in a better way as compared to politicians and address the problems facing the people. Loss is being caused to country due to corruption and incompetence of politicians.”
The appearance of banners in major cities stirred uproar in the country, giving rise to the politics of allegation and counter-allegations. Government and opposition parties accused each other of sponsoring the coup campaign through banners. The Inter-Services Public Relations had to clarify that the army had no connection with the banners or the party.
