New MD of OPF takes charge amid tough challenges

Author: By Zafar Malik

ISLAMABAD: The new Managing Director of Overseas Pakistanis Foundation(OPF), Habibur Rehman Gillani, has assumed his charge in extremely tough circumstances amid a billion-rupee corruption scandal, employment made on fake degrees and financial crises of the department.

The new MD has become activated to face the challenges. After taking his charge he instructed all the divisional and regional heads that corruption, nepotism and negligence and violation of the main objectives under which the OPF was established would not be tolerated in any case

During his introductory speech to the high ranked officers of the OPF on Wednesday, he also ordered that no one would be allowed to act according to his own will. He also sought the record of all the complaints of corruption including housing schemes and the matter of fake degrees.

He said that the OPF, as an institution, should adopt a service based and a friendly behaviour for the resolution of the problems being faced by the overseas Pakistanis

He instructed the officers that they may take solid measures and use all the resources for the welfare of the overseas Pakistanis and their family members so that the ongoing projects would be completed timely and effectively.

Sources said that his predecessor, former MD Habibur Rehman Khan, had appointed his real brother, Owaisur Rehman, on the lucrative post of the Director General Human Resource, at the OPF just one day before leaving the charge so that he may continue to enjoy all the perks including unlimited exploitations of officials vehicles and using the employees of the department as his personal servant at his residence.

Sources also said that the former MD had floated an advertisement in the media mentioning the vacancy of 256 positions in the department and appointed dozens of blue eyed persons by issuing call letters and appointment letters in just three days during the last week of his tenure in office.

He did a lot of wrong deeds in his last days – deeds which he could not complete during his entire stay as the MD OPF.
