K-Electric (KE), with community engagement and service experience enhancement as its main objective, recently completed installation of Aerial Bundled Cables (ABC) at Faqeer Colony in Orangi Town. To ensure a smooth process, KE, as it has done with other Project Sarbulandi initiatives, partnered with the areas senior representatives. By partnering and working with the community, in addition to upgradation of power infrastructure, KE is also able to work with residents to mitigate power theft and ensure that more of its valued customers understand the importance of paying utility bills. In addition to ABC installation, KE also aims to provide around 1,000 homes in the Faqeer Colony area with low cost meters. As of date, around 900 low cost meters have been installed thus far, thereby bringing more and more users into KE’s official network. As a result of these efforts, the overall duration of load-shedding has been reduced in many areas of Orangi town. Project Sarbulandi is an initiative by KE to engage with its customers beyond simple power provision. The project aims to uplift areas rife with power theft, whilst also developing a platform by which KE can engage with community residents on key issues that affect both parties. Since launch and despite the challenges faced because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the project has benefitted over five million residents by reducing load-shed duration by upto 4.6 hours on average.
