Existing uniform design of Punjab Police to be maintained: IGP

Inspector General of Police Punjab Inam Ghani has said that the existing uniform of Punjab Police should be maintained while action should be taken against the police officers and personnel wearing uniforms except the approved design.

He said that the quality of existing uniforms was being further improved while all possible steps should be taken to ensure timely delivery of uniforms. He further said that the draft for updating Police Uniform Rules 1952 and Standing Order 2017 for Police Uniforms should be prepared as soon as possible while detailed consultation with police forces and police bureaus of other provinces should be done to update this Standing Order and draft.

IG Punjab has constituted a seven-member committee comprising senior officers to amend the Police Uniform Standing Order 2017 by keeping in view all aspects regarding uniform and badges of all ranks with respect to uniform and prepare first draft after amendment for presenting it in next meeting on 12 November so that the next course of action can be decided.

IG Punjab directed the members of the committee to consult in detail with the police forces of other provinces and officers of the National Police Bureau on all aspects of uniforms including uniforms, designs, rank badges, socks, hats, jackets and shoes and in the light of the information obtained, make your recommendations and suggestions a part of the draft. The committee will consist of 7 officers including Additional IG Logistics and Procurement, DIG Legal and DIG Procurement. He expressed these views while presiding over a high-level meeting at the Central Police Office here today. The meeting discussed in detail the Police Uniform Rules 1952 and the Standing Order for Police Uniforms 2017.

During the meeting, besides detailed discussion regarding Police Uniform Rules 1952 and Police Uniform Standing Order 2017, issues related to badges of various posts were also discussed after which IG Punjab stated that there is no intention to change the police uniform. While the quality of the existing uniform fabric will be further improved, the uniform will be made more comfortable.

He added that the Standing Order for Police Uniforms 2017 should be amended and the Police Uniform Rules 1952 should also be taken into consideration in the preparation of the new draft. Additional IG Establishment Azhar Hameed Khokhar, Additional IG Logistics and Procurement Ali Amir Malik, Additional IG Investigation Fayyaz Ahmed Dev, Additional IG PHP Shahid Hanif, Additional IG Training Kanwar Shahrukh, Additional IG D&I Ghulam Rasool Zahid, Additional IG Operations Sahibzada Shehzad Sultan, DIG Legal Jawad Ahmed Dogar and DIG Operations Sohail Akhtar Sukhera and other officers were also present.
