Roadside blast in Kalam kills soldier

MINGORA: A soldier was killed and five other people sustained injuries in two roadside blasts in Kalam Valley of Swat district, sources said on Friday. The injured included a tehsil nazim, two soldiers of the Pakistan Army and as many civilians, the sources added.

They said the first blast was caused by a remote controlled bomb planted on a link bridge road in Atror in Kalam. They said the militants detonated the explosive device when the vehicle of Buner tehsil nazim belonging to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Syed Salar Bacha was passing through the bridge.

As a result, Syed Salar Bacha and his two companions Shehzad Bacha and Imad Khan sustained injuries in the attack. They said that security forces were informed about the blast. When they moved to the site, it was targeted with an improvised explosive device planted nearby.

They said a soldier was killed and two others were wounded in the second blasts. They said that the vehicles of tehsil nazim and security forces were damaged in the attacks. The sources said that security forces clamped a curfew in Atror after the blasts and started a door-to-door search operation. They said the Kalam-Mingora road was also closed for traffic. Several suspected persons were been arrested in the search operation.

Hangu clashes: Two persons were killed and three others sustained injuries in a cross firing incident in lower Orakzai Agency, official and local sources said on Friday. They said two armed groups traded fire over a petty issue at Daulat Musa in Zaira area of lower Orakzai Agency.

As a result two persons identified as Muhammadi Jan and Ismail were killed on the spot and three others, Akhtar Gul, Din Muhammad and Sadiq received critical injuries, sources said. The injured were shifted to a local hospital. Soon after the incident, personnel of the khassadar force reached the area and arrested one of the accused.
