Yearly budget for PESSI approved

LAHORE: Punjab Labour and Human Resource Minister Raja Ashfaq Sarwar has said that officers and staff of Punjab Employees Social Security Institute (PESSI) should utilise their best professional abilities for provision of social security benefits to the secured workers and their family members along with improving the contribution targets and administrative affairs of the institute.

He said this while presiding over the 130th meeting of governing body of the institute. PESSI Commissioner Mansoor Qadir, Labour and HR Additional Secretary Adnan Arshad Olakh, Vice Commissioner Humaira Ikram, representatives of finance, industry and health departments, members of the governing body and others attended the meeting.

The governing body approved the proposed budget amounting to Rs 12,726,186,700 for the fiscal year 2016-17. Total allocation for administrative expenditures was fixed at Rs 1,261,145,829. The target for contributions in the proposed budget was fixed at Rs 12,516,900,000. PESSI has allocated Rs 3,783,95,000 for cash benefits of secured workers while profit from different investments and banks is expected at Rs 171,840,700 in the next financial year. Cost of current expenditures in the proposed budget has been fixed at Rs 11,116,459,000 for the year 2016-17. The governing body also gave their consent for the revised budget of PESSI for the fiscal year 2015-16.

Social Security Commissioner Mansoor Qadir informed the meeting that the institute has regularised the services of all the grade-1 to 15 employees.

Members of the governing body also approved the expenditures of Rs two million for the medical treatment of a three-year-old son of secured worker from Armed Forces Bone Marrow Transplant, along with approving to give Social Security Hospital Islamabad at the panel of Prime Minister National Health Programme.
