Pakistan, Thailand likely to sign FTA by year-end

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is holding negotiations with different countries including Thailand, Turkey, South Korea and Iran for signing of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs).

According to officials, the FTAs will not only help promote our trade relations but also strengthen ties with these countries. The FTA with Thailand is expected to be signed by the end of this year. According to officials,Thailand is already investing in Pakistan and more Thai companies are keen to start their operations in the country.

As regards Turkey, the officials said the two countries have already signed an FTA framework agreement earlier this year. They said that talks between the two countries on a comprehensive FTA covering trade in goods, services and investments are moving forward.

The officials said that Pakistan is also holding negotiations with China to revise the FTA which was first implemented in July 2007.
