ISLAMABAD: Unravelling the mystery of Islamabad AIG (operations) Ashir Hamid’s death has become an uphill task for the federal police. No evidence has been found so far from the elementary post-mortem report as well as from the scene, proving the death of AIG to be natural. The police, despite these reports, have not ruled out the possibility that the death could be unnatural. Therefore, the department has started conducting proceedings under section 174. It is pertinent to mention that the Islamabad additional inspector general had died in his own room when he was alone and the room was closed from inside, which had be opened by breaking the lock. However, no such evidence was found from the room on the basis of which the death could be declared unnatural. In the preliminary post-mortem report issued by the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), it was revealed that no toxic substance was found in the stomach of Ashir Hamid, and that he was using anti-depression medicines. He had also used ‘flagyl’ for the cure of his stomach problem/infection. However, all these factors have not been declared as the causes for his death. According to preliminary report issued by police, no seductive pills were found in the room of the late AIG. Only two mobile phones, wallet, cash amount of Rs 5,000 and one bottle of water were found in the room. The report stated that Ashir Hamid fell on the ground face first due to heart attack, therefore receiving injuries on his face. He used flagyl two days prior to the incident, as he was suffering from some stomach problem, the report added. Due to lack of evidence, it has become indispensable for the police to conduct investigations with regard to this case on its own. Samples of Ashir Hamid’s body were also sent to forensic laboratory in Lahore.
