Court to decide on CDA officer’s bail

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) court will decide on interim bail plea of an “absconding” assistant director of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), Sohail Jamil Chohan, in ‘katchi abadi’ (slum) case on July 27.

The FIA, under the Supreme Court (SC) orders, had registered a case against 42 officers and CDA staff members for facilitating construction of slums in the capital. The authority later suspended all the officers and subordinate staffers.

FIA sources said that the authority had declared two officers innocent while the remaining 38 officers and staff members were sent to jail. However, they were released from jails on bail.

Two officers, Sohail Jamil Chohan and Waqar Chohan, were declared proclaimed offenders in the case.

Sources said that the FIA deliberately avoided arresting Sohail Jamil Chohan, and certain officers of CDA removed orders of his suspension and paved the way for his appointment to Parliament Lodges. This way Sohail Jamil Chohan is receiving additional salaries due to the National Assembly and the Senate sessions.

When Sohail Jamil approached the FIA court, the court asked him how he was appointed to Parliament Lodges despite his nomination in the case and suspension from service. The accused could not give a satisfactory reply to the court. The court summoned him again along with the CDA record on July 27 to decide on his bail plea.
