Sehwag sends birthday wishes to Zaheer

Author: Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: Former India opener Virender Sehwag took to Twitter on Sunday to send out wishes to Pakistani veteran Zaheer Abbas on his 69th birthday. The former Pakistan batsman, who was born in Sialkot in 1947, represented the national team in 78 Tests and 62 ODIs from 1969 to 1985. Dubbed as the Asian Bradman, Abbas was known for his timing and precision, and made a name for himself in his second Test at Edgbaston, where he played a knock of 274 against England. The former middle-order’s lethal quality with the bat also earned him the nickname ‘Zaheer Ab bas’, translated to ‘Zaheer that’s enough’, on the field by his Indian counterparts. Ironically, he remains Indian veteran Sunil Gavaskar’s only Test scalp. The 69-year-old is currently serving as president of the International Cricket Council (ICC) until July 27.
