ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Egypt have expressed their resolve to counter terrorism by putting together all their efforts and resources.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif met the Egyptian leadership on Monday and discussed military-to-military relations, enhanced security collaboration and training exchanges between the two countries.

General Raheel held separate meetings with the Egyptian defence minister and chief of staff after he arrived in Cairo as part of his two-day official trip to the country, the ISPR said on Monday.

Both sides vowed to synergise all efforts and resources to fight and eliminate terrorism, added the military’s media wing.

The Egyptian leaders expressed specific interest in benefiting from the Pakistan Army’s experience in all facets of fighting terrorism, including countering improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The Egyptian military leadership also paid tribute to the Pakistan Army over sacrifices offered in the fight against terrorism and extremism.

Earlier, upon his arrival at the army headquarters, the army chief was presented a guard of honour by the Egyptian military. The Pakistan Army has been engaged in fighting the militants under the banner of Operation Zarb-e-Azb since June 15, 2014 to purge the country of terrorists and curb their resources of reinforcement.
