PESHAWAR: Karishma, a resident of Station Kuroona district Charsadda and a madrassa student on Monday demanded of Chief Minister Parvaiz Khattak and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Nasir Khan Durrani to take action against Charsadda police for allegedly harassing her and her mother Razia. She threatened to self-immolate in front of the said police station if she did not get justice.
“Last 25th May I was coming with my mother to Charsadda from Station Kuroona. Suddenly, we were stopped at Mardan Road Charsadda by Assistant Superintendent Police (ASP) Iftehar and forcefully brought to the police station without any reason” she told reporters in a press conference at Peshawar Press Club.
She added that when they entered into the police station the Station Police Officer (SHO) Imran and three women already were present there. “The SHO asked the women about us but the women did not recognise us. The concerned SHO put us in jail and lodged a fake First Information Report (FIR) against us while the police harassed us.” The next day they were presented in court, wherein they were released on bail.
“I have written letters to Chief Minister, IGP and DIG Mardan for taking action against the Charsadda police station but to no avail,” Karishma, 16, lamented. “My fiancé and his family members refused to marry me and broke off relations due to the fake FIR. My pictures taken by the SHO in the police station were uploaded on social media” she added. She said that she was fond of learning Islamic education but after that incident and owing to police manhandling she left the Islamic school she was studying at. She also demanded of the KP government and police high ups to make an impartial inquiry in this regard and provide protection to her and her mother. She informed that if anything untoward happened to her after the press conference the police would be responsible.
