Cop injured as police party attacked in Swat

A police party was attacked last night in Mangalor area of Swat, injuring a policeman, while police retaliated by killing an attacker.

According to police, a police mobile was on a routine patrol in Mangalor’s Shingrai Chowk, when two persons on the spot started firing on the police party due to which a police constable Rehmanullah got injured.

“The Police retaliated and cross-firing begin, killing one of the attackers, identified as Jamil s/o Bakht Rawan, while the other attacker managed to escape” Police Sources Said.

The injured policeman has been shifted to Saidu Sharif Hospital for medical treatment while the body of the deceased attacker has been taken into custody.

A large contingent of police and other law enforcement agencies arrived at the scene after the incident and gathered evidence. Police officials said that a search operation had been launched in Mangalor and adjoining areas to nab the fugitive attacker.

The attack on police party is believed to be a terrorist act, but police officials say that they are not sure whether the two men were robbers, drug dealers, or militants.

Police have expanded their investigation to find out what organization the attackers belonged to and why they opened fire on the police party.

Two days before the incident, a police personal was also shot and injured in Kanju area of Swat in which Police arrested the culprit and lodged FIR against him.
