RAWALPINDI: The City Traffic Police (CTP), on the directive of Police Inspector General Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera, on Tuesday launched an operation against one wheelers and underage drivers.

According to Acting Chief Traffic Officer Rawalpindi Iftikharul Haq, the operation has been launched to ‘put a lid on’ one-wheeling and rash driving. He said that special squads had been constituted to take strict action against one wheelers and underage drivers.

However, the activity was already being checked by the squads of traffic officials deputed in the city but new arrangements had also been made to further curb the activity. The CTP, in its operation against traffic rules violators, would also arrest the youngsters particularly those found one wheeling or rash driving under Section 99/A, he said.

The traffic police officers had been directed to keep a vigilant eye on the one-wheelers and underage drivers so that action, in accordance with the law, could be taken against them without discrimination as it causes deaths and injuries for the ones involved.

According to the ACTO, most traffic accidents can be averted if precautionary measures are adopted with strict observance of traffic rules. He said that the citizens, particularly the parents, should also come forward to play their role
