Sir: The orders issued by the Sindh CM to dismiss the relevant officers in case garbage from the streets of Karachi is not lifted in three days seem to have vanished into thin air. The issue of garbage across Karachi is not a new one. The problem has worsened due to the negligence of successive governments over decades. Instead of giving useless deadlines and orders, the Sindh government should imitate Lahore’s cleanliness model and observe the mechanism of the Lahore Waste Management Company, which is responsible for the cleanliness of Punjab’s provincial capital. Although the task of cleaning Karachi is enormous, it can be done with sincere efforts from our politicians as well as the concerned authorities. The Sindh government should study the cleanliness models of the major cities around the world, and try to devise a mechanism to keep the city clean in the long run.
