Role of nutrition during pregnancy

A diet full of nutrients during pregnancy is highly recommended. Let me tell you the most important thing that nutrition requirements of pregnant women is totally different from non-pregnant women. Diet plays a crucial role for growing baby and pregnant mother. All nutrients are required in increased amount in terms of maintaining a healthy pregnancy. Optimal nutrition provides optimal growth. The benefits of good nutrition and the drawback of unhealthy diet in pregnancy are following.

Mothers who eat unhealthy diet during pregnancy is causing danger to herself and baby’s life. Unhealthy diet and nutritional deficiencies during pregnancy leads to preterm or low weight baby postpartum depression, miscarriages and effect on bone metabolism. Similarly, Iodine deficiency can increase the risk of miscarriages. A lack of nutrition can increase the risk of metabolism disorders such cancer type 2 diabetes and heart disease later in life. moreover vaginal bleeding, miscarriages, premature labor and delivery are other dark aspects of unhealthy diet.

Multivitamins are essential during pregnancy because it plays an important role in the growth of baby and fulfill the basic requirement of mother. calcium, iron, iodine, folic acid, zinc, selenium, omega 3 and B complex vitamins are important. To maintain a healthy weight you have to eat a variety of foods from each food group, weight gain in pregnancy is totally natural and expected so you don’t have to worry about it. Low iron level in pregnancy are vulnerable to developing anemia so you can protect your maternal anemia by starting folic acid as early as possible, ideally before pregnancy. But supplements do not replace a healthy and balance diet. One should eat dairy products, legumes, lean meat, berries, whole grains, leafy green vegetables, dried fruits, a baby need all those nutrient dense food from a balanced and healthy eating plan for growth. Knowing the important of nutrition should maintain a healthy and well- nourished gestational period.
