Shortage of doctors and paramedics hits Polyclinic

ISLAMABAD: The shortage of doctors in emergency wards of Polyclinic Hospital has left the patients in lurch and no positive move is being taken to address this important issues.

State Minister of CADD Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudary is oblivious to the burning issue of inhabitants of the capital city that are facing the problems for last many years. A source told Daily Times that only seven doctors are deployed in emergency ward where 800 patients visit daily, while one nurse is taking care of 80 patients in a day. A from I-10 Islamabad Samina Bibi told Daily Times that she came to emergency to check herself up but no doctor is available. A patient from Bhara Kahu Gul Khan while talking to Daily Times said, “I came here at 8 o clock and my turn for check up come into around 11 am. Doctor checked me without asking anything and wrote the prescription when I went to Hospital dispensary I could not get the Medicine; this is the state of affair in Hospital”, he added.

Monthly report of Casualty Department shows that during the month of June 2016, seven Polyclinic doctors treated more than 24,129 patients. Doctors treated 749 patients on first of June 2016 in which Male 442, Female 307, Entitle (ENT) 479, Non Entitle (N/ENT) 270, Road Side Accident (RSA) 38, Medical Legal Cases (RSA) 17, and Dog Bite 14, burn 4, Asthma 27, General (GE) and child 102 patients.

During the whole month, Male 14373, Female 9756 , Entitle (ENT) 15476, Non Entitle (N/ENT) 8653, Road Side Accident (RSA) 1215, Medical Legal Cases (MLC) 364, Dog Bite 301, Snake bite 06 , burn 159, ASTHMA 729, General (GE) 4545 patients and 4271 Children were given the treatment.

Emergency in charge Doctor Durdana Kazmi told Daily Times; “We have 9 doctors and 10 nurses working in Emergency. Moreover 2 senior doctors out of 9 are supervising rest of the doctors”. There are 17 beds are available for first aid patient and 18 beds kept for those patients in old emergency who admitted more than a day. Meanwhile we are facing the shortage of Doctors and Nurses, she added.

When Daily Times contacted the Executive Director (ED) Polyclinic Dr Iftikhar Naro, he said that Prime Minister has given the approval to hire 100 doctors so the problems of patients can be resolved.
