The opposition in Punjab Assembly led by Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) on Tuesday submitted the requisition to call the session of the assembly as it wants to discuss the ‘unjust’ arrest of the opposition leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif.

The requisition was submitted in the secretariat of Punjab Assembly to DG Parliamentary Affairs Anayatullah Lak. As per the details, senior lawmakers of PML-N including MPAs Samiullah Khan (PP-144), Muhammad Waris Shad (PP-84), Zeeshan Rafique (PP-42) and Khalil Tahir Sandhu (NM-368) submitted the requisition on behalf of the opposition benches to convene the session. According to the rules of business of the Punjab Assembly, the Speaker is bound to convene the session within fourteen days of the submission of the requisition signed by 1/4th members of the House and PML-N has 165 members in the house of 371 while only 93 MPAs are required to submit the requisition.

The requisition was submitted by the MPAs of both the PML-N and PPP to summon the session of Provincial Assembly of the Punjab under Article 54 (3) read with Article 127 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The opposition has mentioned three issues to be discussed in the Punjab Assembly including ‘Unjust arrest of Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly and President of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’, ‘Law and order situation’ and ‘Rising Inflation’.

Talking to Daily Times, PML-N MPA Samiullah Khan said that the unjust arrest of our president Shehbaz Sharif will be raised in the session of Punjab Assembly. “Pakistan is passing through the darkest period these days as the opposition leader in National Assembly and the opposition leader in Punjab Assembly both are incarcerated,” said MPA Samiullah Khan. He further added that the detention of both Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shehbaz are result of NAB-Niazi alliance.

According to the lawmaker, it is the worst time in the political history of Pakistan as the opposition is being suppressed and media is facing multiple curbs. The law and order situation in Punjab is also deteriorating despite changing the IGs repeatedly, he said. He further added that the inflation has made the life of a common man miserable. The prices of basic necessities are increasing with every passing day as the government has just recently increased the price of daily usage medicines manifold. All these issues will be raised in the session and therefore we submitted a reacquisition today, said Samiullah Khan. In a related development, a resolution was also submitted in Punjab Assembly while condemning the arrest of PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif by the NAB. The resolution was submitted by MPAs Mian Abdul Rauf, Sumbal Malik and Auniza Fatima.
