ISLAMABAD: The persistent seepage in roofs of Islamabad District Court building during current monsoon is destroying the record of cases even of some important nature. The district administration has kept its eyes close and sheer negligence of administration was not notices by any corner of the government.

Monsoon rains have on one side caused immense damages to Katchi abadis and dilapidated buildings in the suburbs of federal capital while on the other it has put in jeopardy the old and dilapidated record rooms of district courts.

Thousands of files of important cases have been destroyed due to seepage. The roofs of the record rooms which are made of iron sheets on temporary basis were swept away by wind storms.

Despite advance information about heavy monsoon rains no proper arrangements were made for protection of files and the rain water flooded into the rooms reducing years old record into waste papers.

The court staff also fearing to enter the rainswater filled record rooms. The staff said that the administration has been informed about the situation in perspective of monsoon rains but no proper arrangement is in place to shift the record to safe place. There is no such place available where the record could be shifted.

The court staff informed this scribe that the new rooms which were constructed for preservation of record have no capacity to allow the record to be kept therein. These rooms are not in good condition. Record is enormous and the rooms are less in numbers for adjustment of this huge record.

The heavy showers have caused damage to record rooms and files on one side and on the other side it has affected the CCTV cameras installed therein for security. A good number of cameras have been broken and fallen on the ground. This state of affairs has adversely affected security matters in Islamabad district courts.

It is pertinent to mention here that earlier thousands files were damaged due to heavy downpour and no record of the respective cases is available due to which thousands of applicants are forced to make meaningless rounds of rooms in quest for record. Despite this grave situation, the administration is paying no heed to take measures for protection and safety of record.
