Over Rs15 million scam surfaces in Rawalpindi roads project

RAWALPINDI: A financial scam of over Rs15 million has surfaced in development projects launched under Khadim Punjab Rural Roads Program (KPRRP) in district Rawalpindi.

A two-member team headed by account officers Nasir Janjua and Syed Afzal Hussain from Lahore has confirmed during an inquiry that over Rs15.66 million has been released to a contractor without pre-audit. The team has recommended for initiation of action against the officials responsible in the financial irregularity. On the other hand NAB has also sought a record of the scam.

Divisional Accounts Officer (DAO) Rizwan informed inquiry team that XEN Provincial Roads Construction Division (PRCD) has released Rs15.66 to contractor Muhammad Siddique in connection with construction of roads in rural areas of Rawalpindi without pre-audit.

The team has declared the XEN at fault in the inquiry report and recommended further action.
