ISLAMABAD: Punjab Governor, Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana, has recently lauded the contribution made by the business community towards the national development.

He then called for an increased economic activity in order to generate additional jobs and revenue. The government is aware of the problems of the business community, which included those that had surfaced recently, he said, further adding that these would be resolved within days. Rajwana remarked this while addressing a reception hosted in his honour at the residence of FPCCI President, Abdul Rauf Alam. “The private sector is the engine of the growth, which will be given all the facilities,” he asserted.

Punjab Governor also noted that the present government had achieved a lot ever since it had come to power, and has, hence, been acknowledged by dozens of international institutions. Pakistan had embarked on the path of developing a high-growth-economy and also heading towards a bright future with the assistance of the friendly policies and the unprecedented support of the Chinese government, he added. Rajwana also stated that the government had achieved almost all of its objectives in addition to overcoming the prevalent challenge of extremism, terrorism and chronic energy shortage. Load shedding had been reduced significantly while another 3600 megawatts would be soon added to the system with the help of three modern LNG power plants being completed in Punjab, Rajwana added.

It was also said that several difficult decisions were being taken to ensure a larger national interest while a significant investment was also pouring in the energy sector. He then promised that the top government functionaries would soon be informed about the reservations of the business community over certain matters. Tarbela is currently being upgraded while work on Dasu dam is in full swing, Rajwana explained, further asserting that the country’s energy sector was growing more robust with each passing day. He said that these projects would assist the country in meeting its energy needs in the next decade and also expressed his optimism about load shedding ending in the near future. Abdul Rauf Alam also spoke on the occasion and said that exporters could not compete with their rivals unless they were facilitated. He also apprised the governor about the problems of the business community and sought his help in this regard.
