ISLAMABAD: Law enforcement agencies have prepared a three-tier security plan for the Federal Judicial Academy ahead of today’s appearance of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif before a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) constituted to probe the Panama Papers scandal.
The JIT summoned PM Nawaz Sharif on June 15 in relation to the ongoing probe into the Sharif family’s offshore assets. The premier’s sons, Hussain Nawaz and Hasan Nawaz, have already made five and one appearances, respectively.
“Around 2,500 police personnel will be deputed around the judicial academy in three separate layers in addition to the deployment of Rangers and Special Branch personnel,” an officer of the Islamabad police informed Daily Times.
Special car parking has been reserved for journalists near Al-Shifa Hospital where they can park their vehicles and DSNGs.
Islamabad Traffic Police officials have also devised a traffic plan to divert the routine traffic from the judicial academy. As per the plan, I-8 Interchange would remain open for the general public coming from Rawalpindi, however the road from Garden Flyover to judicial academy would be closed.
“The administration has also slapped a ban on public gatherings and protest rallies near the judicial academy on June 15, while Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) workers would not be allowed to enter the judicial academy,” a source in the ICT told this scribe.
Though there is no formal call from the central leadership of the PML-N for workers to gather outside the premises of the judicial academy, sources confirmed that the local leaders of the ruling party are all set to pull out a massive crowed today to show public support.
PML-N leaders visited the area and assessed it for preparations, while banners expressing solidarity with the prime minister have also been displayed at various places. Many party leaders have inscribed their names on the posters bearing slogan ‘Nawaz Sharif Teri Azmat Ko Salam’.
The Islamabad mayor also visited the judicial academy and reviewed the sanitation and other arrangements. Dilapidated roads in the vicinity of the building have been repaired.
