Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Sunday assured the citizens of Karachi that no one will be rendered homeless as an operation has been launched to remove encroachments on storm water drains.

“We will clear the nullahs but with justice. No one’s homes will be destroyed. If a house must be demolished, people will be provided with an alternate first,” he promised while addressing party workers during his visit to KDA Chowrangi, North Nazimabad, Yousaf Goth and Surjani Town. He accepted that the on-going anti-encroachment drive has left numerous across Sindh on the verge of homelessness. “It is our duty to help out affected people and we will do utmost to provide relief,” he added.

Lamenting the unprecedented destruction in the province caused by the rains, Bilawal said that his party stands by the people in these testing times and will facilitate citizens in every way possible. “Now Karachi will be ruled by Jiyalas and we will solve the basic problems of the city,” he said, and acknowledged that the Green Line bus project had adversely affected the city’s drainage system.

He said the party will now begin work in earnest on the development of the city as the ‘rule of terror’ in the province is effectively over. “Serving the people was the mission of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto but now I am here to serve you,” he said. “I need you all to extend the kind of support you did to Benazir,” he said, speaking of his late mother. “We will secure funds for Sindh from the federal government,” he vowed.
