Pakistan received $ 3439.1m from US under CSF in three years

ISLAMABAD: The United States has given Pakistan $ 3439.1 million under the Coalition Support Fund (CSF) in the last three years, the Ministry of Finance informed the National Assembly during Question Hour on Monday.

“In 2013-14 Pakistan received $ 1,050 million, in 2014-15 $ 1,452 million and in 2015-16 $ 97.37 million under the CSF,” the Finance Ministry informed the National Assembly. From the CSF, defence services got Rs 67 billion in 2013-14, Rs 123 billion in 2014-15 and Rs 80 billion in 2015-16, the ministry said. The ministry informed the House that the government took foreign loans of $ 14,163.33 million from 2011-12 to 2015-16, excluding the loan taken from the International Monetary Fund(IMF). Pakistan borrowed $ 5039.66 million from the World Bank, $ 32.42 million from the Asian Development Bank, $ 2,530.92 million from the Islamic Development Bank , $ 440 million from the Consortium of Banks, $ 272.62 million from Standard Charted, $ 70 million from Dubai Islamic Bank and $ 65 million from the ECO Trade Bank.

Pakistan took loan from the International Monetary Fund for reforms in the State Bank of Pakistan, Federal Board of Revenue, power distribution companies, power generation companies, National Electrict Power Regulatory Authority, Pakistan International Airlines, Pakistan Steel Mills, State Life Insurance Corporation and petroleum companies.

In 2014, the IMF gave Pakistan $ 1,653 million, in 2015 $ 2,607 million and in 2016 $ 1,508 million. Pakistan repaid $ 4,415.2 billion to the IMF during this period. The lower house of the parliament was informed that the government took Rs 18,736.7 billion loan from commercial banks against the target of Rs 19,104 billion in the last three years. The Ministry of Planning, Development and Reform told the House that 29.5 percent of Pakistanis were living under the poverty line in the country, according to the 2013-14 statistics. The Interior Ministry informed the National Assembly that 3,403 computerised national identity cards were blocked after verification. These identity cards were issued after January 15, 2014.
