Liv keeps it classic in a capsule collection for Belstaff

Model-turned-actress Liv Tyler has had a lot on her plate recently-not least of which being that it was less than a month ago that the perpetually glowing actress gave birth to her third child, Lula Rose.

“One day you are a radiant giant-bellied wonder and the next day you are kind of like a deflated balloon!” says Liv Tyler about the transition. “You have to be kind to yourself, your body and patient.” For Tyler, that means a reliance on low-key post-baby looks that are easy to wear and ready to go the distance. Which brings us to the Tyler and Belstaff collection, a collaboration between the actress and the British heritage label, known for its luxurious take on outdoorsy classics-the type of leather jacket you can wear on a motorcycle trip through the Scottish Highlands, for example. For Tyler, that meant pieces with a slight ’60s spin that can seamlessly blend into your closet, like a sleek leather collared cape, a natty military coat, a shearling collared moto jacket, pussy-bow blouses, and lace-up ankle boots.

Tyler’s interest in Belstaff came from a personal place. “I wanted to create a few timeless classics. Things I have always had in my closet but wished I designed myself,” says the actress. “I am drawn to simple shapes and designs. I like things that are practical and functional but also very luxurious and elegant.” Much of the collection is based on tailoring. “I know what works for me and my body, and I try to stick to that. I feel more confident and proud of my body than I ever have,” she says. “Great classic silhouettes are always best for me. I like being able to throw a look together quickly and feel and look my best.”

More than two-thirds of the collection is made up of coats, a nod to Tyler’s own reliance on a great coat to pull together “pretty dresses or pants and soft, feminine blouses, to add a touch of masculinity.” And, of course, when it comes to outerwear, she came to the right place. “When I think of Belstaff, I think of great coats that last a really long time and get better and better with age,” says Tyler, who spent time in the label’s archives but ended up thinking decidedly about the future, “wanting to create something fresh that every woman would want to add to her closet for many years to come.” Sounds like a tried-and-true staple that this mom will eventually be passing down to her daughter.
