Retired major found dead in his house

LAHORE: A retired army major was found dead in his house in Askari 5, Naseerabad on Tuesday.

According to police, 55-year-old Major (r) Shahid was found dead in a pool of blood in his room with a gunshot wound in his head. Police also recovered a pistol on the spot lying near the dead body.

Initially, the incident seemed a suicide but an investigation has started to cover all angles in this mystery, the police said, adding that some important evidence was also collected from the crime scene, which was transferred to the forensic lab.

The local police reached the scene after receiving a radio message about the incident. Later, police high ups and rescuers also reached the spot and started an inquiry into the incident.

Naseerabad station house officer told media that the actual cause of death would be cleared after the postmortem report and conclusion of comprehensive investigation. The body has been transferred to the city mortuary, where senior doctors suspected it to be an act of suicide. However, the actual cause would be ascertained only after the postmortem.

Police contingent on the occasion cordoned off the area and restricted visitors from coming near the crime scene. The deceased’s family members refused to talk to media on the occasion.

Meanwhile, police failed to investigate the case of a Kinnaird College student who was found dead in the washrooms of a local hotel few days ago. The deceased girl, identified as a 25-year-old Rabia Naseer, was a resident of Batapur area and was the coach of her college’s cricket team. Different police teams have been investigating the issue but all remained unable to reach any conclusion.

Moreover, a 10-year-old boy was crushed to death by a speedy van in the Factory Area. The child named Usman lived in DHA. According to rescuers, the boy was on his way along with his mother to Lahore General Hospital when a van they hit them forcefully near Walton. However, the van driver managed to escape the scene, while the police handed over the body to his heirs after fulfilling legal formalities.
