RAWALPINDI: Punjab Government has decided to abolish the present infrastructure in historical Liaqat Bagh Rawalpindi and transform it into a modern park with imposing ban on all political and public meetings therein. District Management Rawalpindi has informed about proposal in this respect to the provincial government. Consultation process at high level is underway to find ways and means to avert any political, religious and public resistance against changing the present status of Liaqat Bagh. Sources told Daily Times that Liaqat Bagh is serving as epicentre for all kinds of public, religious, social and political meetings at national level since independence of the country. Liaqat Bagh was proper place for such activities earlier being the population graph very low. Presently it stands next to impossible to hold any public meeting being the garden besieged by plazas, business centres, government, semi government and private offices, business concerns and markets. The crowded Rawalpindi Murree Road goes blocked completely if any public meeting is held in Liaqat Bagh. The traffic is completely blocked and the entire life in Rawalpindi city and surrounding areas comes to stand still. Therefore it has become must to change configuration of Liaqat Bagh. Sources said a state of the art park will be built in Liaqat Bagh after final decision is taken on this matter and Bachoon ki Dunya, motion ride jogging track, green areas and badminton and tennis courts will be carved out therein.
