Traffic chaos

Author: Daily Times

Sir: The blazing headlines in some newspapers report that the prime minister has decided personally to oversee development projects. Another headline reveals that Lahore division’s master plan is coming into force. How about easing the traffic mess the road-users face every day between Thokar Niazbeg to Chung.

About three kilometres, especially from the Motorway overhead bridge on Multan road to Shahpur road turn, remains clogged, as long-body vehicles take U-turns to approach the bus stand and the NLC dry port.

The Motorway police submitted a proposal to Chief Minister Punjab for adding a lane on each side of Multan road from Motorway overhead bridge to Chung but the CM seems more interested in pushing his orange train project than giving importance to daily traffic jams on this stretch of the road.

Adding lanes on each side of the Multan road would alleviate miseries of the motorists and commuters who travel in and out of the provincial capital every day.

NESPAK has already completed a survey for adding lanes on both sides on the above-mentioned stretch of the Multan road so what is stopping the Punjab government from proceeding ahead with the plan? Public money should go into projects that benefit a large number of people. Interest of the commoners, packed mercilessly in buses, should be preferred over the interest of the privileged class.
