PESHAWAR: A large number of medial students on Wednesday rejected the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and the Khyber Medical University (KMU) vice chancellor regarding the shifting of Institute of Paramedical Sciences, Hayatabad, to Zulifqar Ali Bhutto Paramedical Institute, Doran Pur.
While addressing a press conference, Shakirullah, a second batch student of the Institute of Paramedical Sciences (IPMS), said that the students were not ready on any condition to relocate their institute. “We will also move to court and fight for our valid rights in this regard. If the signed MoU was not withdrawn until September 3, we will come on roads for agitation and the provincial government and KMU vice chancellor will be responsible for any untoward incident,” he said.
He said that the students passed the Education Testing and Evaluation Agency (EATA) test and had taken admission in the college after hard completion therefore; they had the right to learn and complete their education in IPMS instead of any other institution.
Supported by Jafar Khan, Hamad Khan, Nasrullah, Kiran Qureshi, Shazmeena Tariq and others, Shakirullah said that they paid Rs 80, 000 per year as their fees to the institution, which was several time more as compared to MBBS fees. “Why are we forced to shift to a new location despite paying higher fee? He asked. “Everything is functioning smoothly and there is no problem of space in the institution,” he claimed.
He maintained that they had time and again informed the provincial government in this regard but to no avail. He continued that the students felt secure in the current institute and were reluctant to shift to any other institution. He added that more than 800 students were currently enrolled in IPMS while with the newcomers, the number would exceed pass 1,100.
