COAS, PM agree to take Karachi operation forward

ISLAMABAD: Both Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Army Chief General Raheel Sharif agreed to take forward the Karachi operation against terrorists and criminals, without any hindrance or political pressure from any party, sources disclosed to Daily Times on Thursday.

Army Chief General Raheel Sharif met with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif here at the Prime Minister’s House. According to the spokesman of the PM’s House both discussed matters pertaining to national and regional security.

Sources said that Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif also joined the meeting and the troika discussed the security of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor and the completion of the national project in time. Sources added that the overall internal situation of the country was also discussed at the meeting with a special reference to the Karachi operation. The military leadership presented its point of view on the current notifications regarding rangers. The prime minister assured that the rangers would continue their professional and operational work without any pressure and hindrance as they played a pivotal role n the improvement of law and order and security situation in the business hub city.The federal government was completely supporting the rangers and no one could stop the security and law enforcement agencies from their duties.

Sources said that the Army chief took the prime minister into confidence on his Urmqi China visit where he attended the quadrilateral meeting of Pakistan, China, Afghanistan and Tajikistan, against terrorism.

The COAS also briefed the prime minister regarding his meetings with the Chinese military leadership regarding the CPEC completion and security. The prime minister cleared that this national project would be completed at any cost and the Chinese would be provided foolproof security The Chief Minister Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif, also took the prime minister and the Army chief into confidence regarding his visit to China and the meeting with the Chinese authorities.
