The City Court has summoned Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Sharjeel Memon to appear on 5th September in liquor recovery case.

The former Sindh minister skipped hearing on Tuesday and submitted a plea for exemption from court appearance. However, the court only granted a single day exemption from appearance.

The court directed him to appear on 5th September and also summoned witnesses of the prosecution. Sharjeel Memon along with four others accused were indicted in the recovery of liquor bottles case earlier this year.

The PPP leader, his three domestic servants Shakardin, Mushtaq Ali and Muhammad Jam, Central Jail Karachi assistant superintendent Naseem Ahmed and Habib Ahmed had been named as accused in the investigation report.

Former chief justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar had in September 2018 found three bottles of liquor in the hospital room of then incarcerated Memon at Karachi’s Ziauddin Hospital. Following the incident, the PPP leader was parcelled off to Karachi’s Central Jail.
