Senate Standing Committee on Narcotics Control on Monday approved The Control of Narcotic Substances (Amendment) Act, 2020 which calls for amendment in Section 12(c).

After the word ‘declaration’, the words ‘or by employing and other means of concealment’ shall be inserted.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Senator Sardar Shafiq Tareen at the Parliament House on Monday.

The meeting was attended among others by Senator Abdul Qayyum, Haji Momin Afridi, Saleem Zia, Nauman Wazir Khattak, John Kenneth Williams, Rana Maqbool Ahmed, Seemi Ezdi, Minister for Narcotics Control Senator Azam Swati, Secretary Narcotics Control and officials from the ministry and Anti-Narcotics Force.

The Committee observed that while it is understandable that this legislation is time barred and we all are united in national interest, however, the need for due diligence requires that the bills are transmitted to Senate from National Assembly well ahead of time.

The Committee also recommended that families of martyred officers and officials of ANF should be given relief packages on equal basis with the police officers and officials.
