LARKANA: The mud-topping work at world heritage site of Mohenjo Daro has been completed to save the historical ruins from forthcoming monsoon rains.

Sindh Culture and Tourism department had started this work at Stupa, Great Bath and other areas around three months ago. Naveed Ahmed Sangah, architect engineer of the site told media on Thursday that wall topping in which grills have been erected to save the monuments from visitor’s trampling, has also completed.

He said that old walls of DK area, SD area and H area have also been strengthened to save the ancient site. Drains have also been repaired to wipe out monsoon rain water. Mud slurry work will also start to conserve other important areas including walls when required funds are made available to the department.

The work is completed before Eidul Fitr, because hundreds of visitors from entire Larkana district and outside come to visit this historic site and most of them are unaware of the importance of the cultural site due to which they cause vast damage to the ruins.

District administration always deploys police to protect the monuments but to no avail.
