PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) Election Committee, on Sunday, extended by two days, the time for filing nomination papers for contesting the forthcoming elections of the PFUJ; to be held here on August 27.

A press release by the PFUJ Election Committee, headed by Rahimullah Yusufzai with Shahidur Rehman, Abdullah Jan, Farzana Ali and Kashifuddin Syed as members, said the decision was made following requests by some local unions of journalists and prospective candidates that they needed more time to file their nominations.

It said the reasons cited by them were found genuine and, therefore, the Election Committee after consulting the PFUJ Unification Committee head Ziauddin, decided to extend the deadline until the midnight of August 9, 2016 to enable all those desirous of filing nominations to do so. The earlier deadline was the midnight of August 7.

However, the Election Committee made it clear that the polling date for the elections to be held in Peshawar during the Biennial Delegates Meeting (BDM) of PFUJ would remain the same, ie August 27. It added that the schedule of other activities for holding the PFUJ elections would be reviewed and necessary changes, if needed, would be made and conveyed to the members through the media.
