Wealth and power worship being the practical religion and foundation of governance has turned society and state of Pakistan into the domains of hatred. hallucination hopelessness, and above all prejudice and hazards. Under the framework, democracy, national institutions, national constitution, elections, governance, and due processes are mere instruments of crude, cunning, callous, and even criminal power plays between and among hunters and Scavengers. The story of independence and survival of the society and State of Pakistan remain the lasting tale of wolf and lamb against the streams of evolution and systems of civilization. Politicians keep an eye on the power pie. And there are others to get their share. If the main narrative continues to be crying the past and not a focus on problem solving it is a negative reflection on the top leadership. What if consensus could be developed on issues which are the concern of the whole nation, including the opposition. Note, divisive from of governance cannot help resolve issues.

To tackle issues related to peace and security, a society needs good governance, competent government, professional and institutional approach with an eye on requirements of responsibility, authority and accountability as well as responsiveness and merit. In our context thana culture has not changed in spite of efforts. Biased reports from officials provide help and support to corrupt and criminal elements against law abiding citizens. We perhaps. Need to re-look at the wisdom of the Punjab police (Efficiency and Discipline) rules 1975, that confer sufficient powers upon senior police officers to deal with the delinquent police officials at whatever level.

Writ against the delinquent police officials is long overdue to bring desired change in police handling and mishandling issues. Independent Pakistan deserves clean, responsible, and accountable police personnel who value merit and truth. Those not sufficiently trained and tested should not be assigned the task of investigations and reporting. Violating this basic rule would be unlawful and irresponsible. I appreciate Imran Khan often referring to Riasat-e-Madina as a state model for Pakistan to follow. The greedy and corrupt are the road-block in our desire and hope for a state like “Riasat-e-Madina”. The corrupt are a source of dysfunctionality of state institutions. Thus, peace security and justice remain a rare commodity. What we need is to stay away from falsehood and distasteful behaviors. We need to use politics as an effective instrument of leadership and resolving conflicts for long lasting cooperation for peace and security. There is no room for blame game and mismanagement. The state needs to be strengthened. “Misak-e-Madina” (Treaty of Madina) was the true form of democracy without prejudice, accommodating all interests. Fortifying state institutions requires us to be competent and honest.

While talking of good governance we cannot ignore “the pandemic and political order”.
